Does Monat Work For Postpartum Hair Loss?
Monat was presented to me to sample for my postpartum hair loss. Let me start by saying I am not a Monat Independent Market Partner and do not have an affiliation with them. So my opinion on their product is unbiased and coming from the point of view of a consumer. Monat cannot be purchased in store, it must be purchased through one of their independent market partners who are paid on a commission, multi-level structure.
What many do not know about me is that I have my Cosmetology license and have been in the spa industry for over 13 years before deciding to take a break to raise my daughter full time. Over the years I have tried dozens of hair products to help repair, grow, protect, treat, and nourish my hair. I worked with clients from all walks of life and helped them on their journey back to healthy hair. I understand ingredients, oils, and how they benefit the hair when the right combination come together. I was excited to try Monat since I have never heard of the brand and love learning about new hair products. Also, I am experiencing postpartum hair loss with a vengeance and desperate to try anything!

I started losing my hair 4 months postpartum. I already had thin hair so for it to thin out even more was tough for me. My Independent Market Partner provided me samples to last 3 weeks. On average, hair grows about 1/2 inch a month. So I do not believe I was able to test the product to its full potential. I believe for max results, you should try the product for a minimum of 3 months. After taking my Hair Quiz I was prescribed the Revive Shampoo and Revitalize Conditioner. This is what I experienced throughout my trial period:
My hair is damaged from heat. Naturally thin. It is not colored and lands a little past shoulder length. I let me hair air dry, add a few curls with a curling iron, and top it off with hairspray. Lots and lots of hairspray.
Pros:
- Cruelty free product. Not tested on animals.
- Smells GREAT.
- Brought back my natural wave.
- Brough volume to my hair.
Cons:
- Did not stop my hair from falling
- Recommended amount did not coat my hair enough which left it rough and caused tugging when brushing.
I always recommend researching ingredients in pretty much anything you buy. I researched all ingredients found in the shampoo and conditioner and did not find anything harmful. I do think Monat is a good line to help nourish and rebuild your hair. I do not think it should be marketed as a postpartum hair loss line. I feel if you naturally have thin hair that falls out easily, Monat may be able to help. But for postpartum hair loss, something that's taking place due to a dramatic hormonal change in our bodies, I do not think this line will help.
I recommend the following to woman going through postpartum hair loss:
- Biotin (with Dr's approval)
- Washing your hair every 3-4 days
- Finding a brush that does not pull your hair
- Getting a good trim
- Continue taking your prenatal (with Dr's approval)
By no means do I suggest not giving Monat a try. As I mentioned, I did see my hair improve in other aspects, just not in regards to hair loss. Do your research, speak to an Independent Market Partner, and if interested, request samples. Just because it did not work for me for hair loss, does not mean it will not work for you.
I know this is not a great chapter of motherhood. With everything we have had to endure, now we add hair loss to the mix. As hard as it is, try to stay positive. Remember this is temporary and your body will fall back to normal. And above all, regardless of how your body has changes during and after pregnancy, you are absolutely beautiful and should be proud of the mother you are becoming.
