The Good Sleeper Review

In this video I review The Good Sleeper by Janet Kennedy. A book directed on teaching you how to get your baby to sleep at night, and stay asleep.

This book came highly recommended from a friend who, week by week, kept hearing my frustrations with my daughter not sleeping through the night. My daughter was 4 1/2 months and as she got older, she would sleep less and less. I couldn't understand why all my friend's babies were starting to sleep through the night, while I was still having to get up every two hours during the night to feed and get her back to sleep. I tried everything they were doing, I tried all the recommendations my family was giving me and yet, nothing improved. What was I doing wrong? When was she going to sleep longer through the night?

From the moment I read the first page, I started to learn so much about where I was going wrong.

What I liked most about this book is:

  1. Breaks down sleeping based on age and lifestyle.
  2. Explains how parents contribute to baby's sleep.
  3. Provides different approaches to take.

Biggest takeaways:

  1. First thing to understand is that everyone and their babies are different. We all have different lifestyles and babies of different ages. We should not compare ourselves and hold where we are to where someone else and their baby is. They are trying approaches that work best for the age of their baby and their lifestyle.
  2. No baby just starts sleeping through the night. You have to teach them how to sleep.
  3. My daughter was not hungry, she was using food to self sooth, and by me always providing her a bottle when she fussed at night. I was not allowing the process to take place. I was not allowing her time to learn how to get herself back to sleep at night.
The Good Sleeper provides multiple approaches to take to get your baby into a good sleeping pattern, not just during the night, but during the day as well. It addresses every lifestyle, every predicament, and provides examples of each. I highly reccommend giving The Good Sleeper a try. You have tried just about everything else and it hasn't worked. So what else do you have to loose, other than more sleep?

I can gladly say that at 5 months old, my daughter is now only getting up one time during the night and naps great throughout the day. If you have tried just about everything to get your baby to sleep at night and nothing seems to work, maybe The Good Sleeper will be great for you.

Give it a try and let me know what you think!
